So right now, the Foundation is actively engaged with members of the community and county officials in making several essential property acquisitions a reality, with the goals of preserving valuable scrub land, benefiting wildlife corridors and increasing overall green-space connectivity.
In addition, we’ve pinpointed several Martin County Parks Department programs that we could assist, including the Park Keepers. This newly formed program calls on volunteers to help maintain the parks and offset the county’s operating costs. By helping facilitate the program, Treasured Lands Foundation can help expand the volunteer base, share the responsibilities and shave maintenance costs to a minimum.
Also, while many fun and exciting athletic opportunities are available through the Martin County Parks Department, certain costs still fall on families. Sometimes, those expenses can put a program just out of a child’s reach.
The Foundation is exploring creative ways to support the Robert F. Denison Endowment for Youth, named after the department's first director who organized and consolidated Parks into its current acclaimed and award-winning state. The endowment aims to ensure that financial limitations don't prevent any child from benefiting from the character-building attributes of positive Parks programs.
