Putting Down Roots

Contributing to the beauty of the “Southern Addition” of Halpatiokee Regional Park in Stuart, Treasured Lands Foundation arranged for the planting of 106 cypress trees. Provided by Calusa Creek Tree Farm, the trees were planted on the numerous sloped embankments—created in harmony with the land’s natural contours—jutting into the park’s many winding water bodies.

The trees, installed by Resource Restoration of Stuart, gave a floral facelift to the 357-acre multiuse nature escape, which Martin County is preserving in as primitive a fashion as possible.

Treasured Lands Foundation hopes to eventually open a learning center in the heart of the rugged property that’s free-standing, low-impact and entirely self-sufficient with solar electricity, composting toilets and the latest in natural, green building technique.
